課程概述

This course, the first of two social work research, introduces you the basic concepts and methods of scientific inquiry that you will be using in subsequent courses and research activities. The course covers the fundamentals of different types of research procedures, the essential terms and concepts, systematic literature review and research methodology designs. With this course as a foundation, you would hopefully be able to critically evaluate research literature in your field and plan a feasible research project.
This course will begin with an overview of research. Readings and assignments are planned to stimulate an analytic perspective toward social work knowledge and toward evaluation of social work practice. During the semester, you will be expected to read the assigned readings as the knowledge base. Using the framework, you will read and criticize original research and evaluation articles that address the issues of your area research of interest. You will also have the opportunity to reflect on the research process learned as prepare to conduct an original research investigation. 

課程目標
The primary goal of the course intends to expose you to research so as to know the appropriate application of terminology, technical language, and skills associated with social work research. A second goal of the course intends to enhance of your ability to critically evaluate published literatures and research projects to inspire you curious about social work research through out your academic career. The third goal intends to develop beginning research skills for you to plan and carry out all phases of quantitative and qualitative research project by using the research knowledge learned from the course. 
課程要求
Class sessions include brief lectures, oral presentations and group discussions. Each class begins with review/presentation and discussion of the major concepts and ideas referred by the assigned readings. You are encouraged to seek clarification and greater understanding of the materials during the review by asking questions and soliciting additional published literatures in your area. To receiving a passing grade, you are required to complete three presentations, three written assignments and a comprehensive final research proposal.
